Swedish digital consultancy Stratiteq and Microsoft invite people from all over the world to join Climate Hackathon – a hackathon where technology takes on climate related problems and solves them. During the hackathon participating teams will work on solving real cases from non-governmental organizations and non-profits like Buy Food For Plastic (Switzerland), MapBiomas (Brazil), Smithsonian (U.S.A.), Cool Farm Alliance (U.K.), Climate Policy Radar (U.K.), WattTime (U.S.A), Hudson Carbon (U.S.A) and others.

“We have good experiences from hackathons at Stratiteq. This time we are teaming up with Microsoft in order to take it to the right level and to do something effective for the climate. Our daily work is to develop data-driven solutions for our clients, and Climate Hackathon is a good opportunity to inspire others to use data to build innovative solutions for the good of the planet," says Goran Vuksic, Technical Manager at Stratiteq.

Participants can choose between challenges in one of four areas: Carbon, Ecosystem, Waste and Water. Every team has five days to give their best in solving the problem and present a solution – an app, a prototype or a conceptual idea, delivered as open source, so it could hopefully benefit the whole world.

"The solution can be almost anything, that's the glory of hackathon. You never know what ideas will come, when you combine people from different backgrounds and with different skills," says Sherry List, Azure Developer Engagement Lead at Microsoft.

The winning teams in each area will win € 2,000 worth of mentorship from Stratiteq. They will also be featured on Microsoft's Green Tech Blog and interviewed on Microsoft Learn TV. But the biggest win by far is to help the world to overcome a piece of the climate problem.

"We are so excited about this, because if we can find smart technology solutions to our dedicated climate problems we can help spread these solutions all over the world and make an important impact for everybody on the planet," says Kim Hedberg, Manager Strategy and Offerings at Stratiteq.

Hack the Climate is an online event that takes place 22-26 March this year.
